Credit Card Processing Setup with QuickStore Point-of-Sale

QuickStore Point-of-Sale provides the capability to process credit cards using the ICVerify credit card processing software. QuickStore Point-of-Sale’s integration with ICVerify allows you to immediately authorize a credit card sale quickly and directly from QuickStore Point-of-Sale.

Part I: Setting up ICVerify for Windows 95/98

In Windows 95/98 you may run more than one application at a time. This ‘multi-tasking’ allows you to run both QuickStore Point-of-Sale and ICVerify at the same time. In order for ICVerify to work with QuickStore Point-of-Sale, you must first install ICVerify and ensure that it is working correctly without QuickStore Point-of-Sale. The following list provides some guidelines and instructions on installing ICVerify.

  1. Install ICVerify as instructed by ICVerify’s accompanying documentation. (When prompted, accept the default directory chosen by Windows 95/98, C:\ICVWIN227.)
  2. Once installation is complete, you may access all ICVerify software through the Start Menu. Choose Start>Programs>ICVerify for Windows, and whichever application you desire.
  3. Before setting up ICVerify, you will need to know your processor type, merchant ID number, terminal ID number, necessary phone numbers, and any other required information that your processor requires. Check the enclosed set-up sheet titled ‘ICVerify Merchant Set-up Sheet Instructions’ enclosed with the ICVerify software. You will be prompted for the aforementioned information during the setup wizard.
  4. To begin setting up ICVerify, choose Start > Programs > ICVerify for Windows > ICVerify Setup from the Start Menu. The Setup Wizard will guide you through the setup process.
  5. While in ICVerify’s setup wizard you will be required to specify the type of receipt printer and its computer port. Set both the report and receipt printers to your printer’s corresponding LPT or COM port.
  6. When the ICVerify’s setup wizard gets to the modem setup, you should allow the computer to search for your modem and assign the proper modem initialization string. If you have special requirements for accessing an outside line, then append to the end of the initialization string.
  7. Other aspects of ICVerify’s setup wizard are straightforward. You will not be allowed to save the setup unless you obtain the required verification code from ICVerify. You must call ICVerify at 1-800-666-5777 to get this code. You will need the serial number of your version of ICVerify. Once you enter the verification code, the setup is saved and you may test to see if ICVerify works.
  8. Refer to ICVerify’s manual on ringing up a sale, and run a test sale. This is the only way to ensure that it works.

Part II: Preparing to Use QuickStore Point-of-Sale with ICVerify - Main Station

In order for QuickStore Point-of-Sale to interact with ICVerify, you must run ICVerify - Multi User. ICVerify - Multi User is used to interface with QuickStore Point-of-Sale. ICVerify for Windows allows you to print reports, summaries, etc. You will need to make adjustments to ICVerify - Multi User, ICVerify for Windows, and QuickStore Point-of-Sale before you are ready to process credit cards from QuickStore Point-of-Sale. Start by setting up QuickStore Point-of-Sale to work with ICVerify.

Note*: For stores running ICVerify on only one machine, you will not need to perform ‘Part IV - Adding Additional Stores’ in this document. If you will be running ICVerify on more than one station, then you will also need to follow the instructions in Part IV. The term Main Station refers to the main ICVerify station. The ICVerify main station may or may not be your network server.

Activating ICVerify in QuickStore Point-of-Sale

QuickStore Point-of-Sale must be informed that it will be working in conjunction with ICVerify. Below are specific instructions on activating ICVerify, setting the station number, and specifying the location of the request files that QuickStore Point-of-Sale will use to communicate with ICVerify.

  1. Choose the Maintenance Menu > Workstation Settings > F4 More. Tab down to ICVerify, and hit the space bar to toggle the ICVerify option on. An X should appear in the small box.
  2. Enter the ICVerify station number as 1(The main station).
  3. Enter the ICVerify directory as C:\ICVWIN\QSW (Created in Part III.)

Part III: Preparing ICVerify to Work with QuickStore Point-of-Sale - Main Station

There are two steps in preparing ICVerify to work with QuickStore Point-of-Sale. The First step involves loading both ICVerify - Multi User, the program that interfaces with QuickStore Point-of-Sale, and ICVerify for Windows, to allow you to run reports and other available functions, every time your machine boots up. The second step makes some special modifications to ICVerify - Multi User’s command line to personalize it to the needs of QuickStore Point-of-Sale.

Auto-Loading ICVerify for Windows and ICVerify - Multi User (Main Station)

In Part II, ‘Activating ICVerify in QuickStore Point-of-Sale,’ item three, the directory C:\ICVWIN\QSW is assigned in QuickStore Point-of-Sale. The directory C:\ICVWIN\QSW does not exist and must be created.

  1. Open Windows Explorer two times to copy from one folder into the other. Make sure to allow access to both Windows Explorer folders.
  2. In the first Window Explorer folder, open the ICVWIN folder.
  3. Choose File > New > Folder, and name it \QSW. This is the directory that is referred to in QuickStore Point-of-Sale. (Part II - Item 3)
  4. In the second Windows Explorer, open Windows folder > Start Menu folder > Programs folder > Start Up folder. (It may be empty.)

Auto-Loading ICVerify for Windows and ICVerify - Multi User (Main Station Cont.)

In order to process credit cards from QuickStore Point-of-Sale, both ICVerify for Windows and ICVerify - Multi User must be loaded every time QuickStore Point-of-Sale is up and running. The following instructions will automatically load ICVerify for Windows and ICVerify - Multi User at Windows95/98 startup. (Whenever you boot your computer.) Shortcuts to both ICVerify for Windows and ICVerify - Multi User are placed in the Start Up directory and the programs are loaded during boot-up.

  1. In the first Windows Explorer, locate ICVMLT32.EXE (ICVerify - Multi User). Using the right mouse, click and drag the ICVMLT32.EXE icon into the second Windows Explorer and release it. Choose Create Shortcut(s) Here.
  2. Locate ICVGUI32.EXE (ICVerify for Windows) in the first Windows Explorer. Right click and drag the ICVGUI32.EXE icon to the second Windows Explorer. Release and choose Create Shortcut(s) Here.
  3. Right click Shortcut to ICVMLT32.EXE (ICVerify - Multi User) in the second Windows Explorer folder. Choose Properties > Shortcut Tab, and on the Run line, choose minimize.
  4. Right click Shortcut to ICVGUI32.EXE (ICVerify for Windows) in the second Windows Explorer folder. Choose Properties > Shortcut Tab, and on the Run line, choose minimize.

Modifying ICVerify - Multi User (Icvmlt32.exe) - Main Station

ICVerify - Multi User is the variation of ICVerify that interacts with your modem. The modem calls the processing center and retrieves the authorization code. The computer that houses the modem is considered the Main Station. A few changes must be made to ICVerify - Multi User before ICVerify - Multi User will work with QuickStore Point-of-Sale.

  1. There are now two files in the second Windows Explorer. Right click Shortcut to ICVerify - Multi User, and choose Properties.
  2. From the Properties screen, choose the Shortcuts tab. On Cmd Line, make it read as follows: C:\Icvwin\Icvmlt32.exe /o /a. This adjustment is needed to ensure that ICVerify will work from within QuickStore Point-of-Sale.
  3. You will now need to actually run ICVerify - Multi User to set a few more parameters. From the Start Menu, choose Programs > ICVerify for Windows > ICVerify - Multi User.
  4. In the Field Initialization String, enter /o.
  5. In the Request Directory Field, enter C:\ICVWIN\QSW.
  6. Click on the button Initialize.

Part IV: Adding Additional Stations

When adding additional stations, each additional station loads ICVerify (not ICVerify - Multi User) and sends their request file to the main station. The main station is the only station that calls the processing center and retrieves the authorization codes. Many of the set up procedures are the same, so you will need to refer to earlier sections

In QuickStore Point-of-Sale…

  1. Choose Maintenance Menu > Workstation Settings > F4 more, and activate the ICVerify box so there is an X present.
  2. The station will be 2 or the next appropriate number. (Not one.)
  3. You must now specify the ICVerify Directory. The directory’s location will be the main station’s X:\ICVWIN\QSW directory. (Replace X: with the drive letter that corresponds with the ICVerify Main Station’s c-drive. For example, S:\ICVWIN\QSW.)

In ICVerify (ICVGUI32.EXE)…

  1. Additional stations need to have ICVerify software loaded onto their machines. You will want to automatically load ICVGUI.EXE during boot-up. (You do not need to automatically load ICVerify - Multi User.)
  2. Open Windows Explorer two times as before.
  3. In the first Windows Explorer, locate ICVGUI32.exe (ICVerify - Multi User). Using the right mouse, click and drag the ICVGUI32.exe icon into the second Windows Explorer and release it. Choose Create Shortcut(s) Here.
  4. Right click Shortcut to ICVGUI32.EXE (ICVerify for Windows) in the second Windows Explorer folder. Choose Properties > Shortcut Tab, and on the Run line, choose minimize.
  5. Still in the Shortcuts tab, the Cmd Line should read: C:\Icvwin\Icvmlt32.exe /s00x /o (x for appropriate station number).
  6. You may now run ICVerify for Windows.
